Event Details

For our winter concerts in 2012, Cantores present major sacred choral works by BachPalestrinaMendelssohnSamuel Wesley and Eric Whitacre where the composer is responding to dramatic events from the Psalms and The Testaments.

We sing of Mary at the foot of the cross, of the Egyptian army engulfed by the Red Sea, of the Jewish people at war with their neighbours, of King David grieving for his son killed in battle, or the human soul contemplating its end on Earth.

We will perform this concert twice, first in the magnificent acoustic and surroundings of Malmesbury Abbey on Saturday November 24, and again two weeks later on December 1 at St John the Baptist's in Cirencester as the Capital of the Cotswolds gets into the Christmas spirit.

Many different styles but one aim: to intensify the drama and, in so doing, draw the listener into an inspiring and dazzling sound-world.

Cantores Chamber Choir in the Cotswolds

We are a small, passionately dedicated chamber choir in the Cotswolds, 26 of us singing six or so concerts a year in some of England'st most beautiful parish churches.

Two of our concerts every year are with the accompaniment of the Cantores String Ensemble, and we particularly love a cappella singing, with a repertoire ranging from the earliest Tudor times to the most contemporary English composers.
